JÉRÔME PESCHARD
A unique voice in the art world, blending the old and the new, the past and the present, to create a visual narrative that is both modern and nostalgic.
Jérôme Peschard, a French artist, is a man of experience and skills who draws inspiration from different cultures. He profoundly understands painting structures and concepts, “a wealth of ideas” as he claims to have, honed by years of passion and practice. Currently, Jérôme calls Saigon, Vietnam, his home, where he has lived and worked for 9 years.
An unexpected fate brought Jérôme to Saigon. He served as CEO and Creative Director for Ankama Group in France for a decade, where he was in charge of the massively popular MMORPG Dofus. In search of a factory for Dofus merchandise, Jérôme was struck by the rapid urbanization of Ho Chi Minh City. Although he laments the loss of the city’s architectural heritage, he finds inspiration in the energy and culture of Saigon.
Jérôme’s pop art style is informed by vintage inspiration, reflecting both modern capitalist countries and Asian sophistication. He draws upon images of old Saigon, like old cars and French colonial buildings, and transforms them into pop art masterpieces. One of his signature pieces is a corner painting of Ben Thanh – Le Loi market, which captures the bustling streets of Saigon with dynamic realism and a hint of nostalgia.
What sets Jérôme’s paintings apart in Vietnam is the materials he uses. He paints oil on carefully treated rusty corrugated iron sheets, scraps left behind after construction projects. By using these unconventional materials, Jérôme highlights the rapid transformation of Saigon and the impact of high-rise buildings on the city’s development.
